Identification Technology

Digital Ear Tags &
Neck Bands

Every animal in the Digilivestock system receives a unique digital ear tag — a durable, tamper-resistant identifier that carries a unique number linked to the owner's profile on our platform. The tag shown here (No. 4281) is a standard Digilivestock ear tag applied to the animal's ear for permanent identification.

Complementing the ear tag is the identification neck band — a highly visible yellow band with the green Digilivestock clasp. The neck band provides a secondary layer of identification, making animals instantly recognizable during market days, inter-regional movement, and veterinary inspections. Together, the ear tag and neck band form a dual-layer identification system that dramatically reduces livestock theft, enables instant ownership verification, and supports the Tag Enhancement Reward program.

Mobile Platform

The Digilivestock
Mobile App

At the heart of the Digilivestock ecosystem is our mobile platform — a powerful yet simple tool that puts livestock management in the palm of your hand. In this image, a farmer uses the app in the field to scan and verify a tagged animal, instantly pulling up the full digital record including ownership history, tag status, and accumulated rewards.

The app is designed for real-world field conditions — it works on standard smartphones, requires minimal data, and features an intuitive interface that farmers, agents, and veterinarians can use with confidence. Through the app, agents can register new farmers, book and assign tags, process ownership transfers, and manage their entire operation from anywhere. Farmers can check their livestock portfolio, track reward accumulation, and verify transactions — all in real time.

The Bigger Vision

Beyond Livestock —
Universal Tracking

The principles behind Digilivestock's identification system are part of a global movement toward universal animal tracking. This image shows a satellite-enabled tracking tag on a marine animal — the same foundational concept of tagging, tracking, and creating verifiable digital records that powers our livestock platform.

While our current focus is on Kenya's livestock sector — cattle, goats, sheep, and poultry — the technology and systems we're building are designed with scalability in mind. From GPS-enabled tracking for inter-regional movement to integration with national agricultural databases, Digilivestock is laying the groundwork for a future where every animal has a verifiable digital identity. This vision aligns with international standards for animal traceability, food safety certification, and sustainable agricultural practice.

Our Roadmap

Now: Ear tags & neck bands for Kenya's livestock

Next: GPS-enabled tracking for inter-regional movement

Future: Pan-African digital livestock registry
